In a couple of weeks chennai will have an exclusive mobile application that will make it easier for patients in need of blood to find donors with ease. Similar to the option given to call taxi drivers attached to the major cab aggregators on their mobile application (where a driver could accept or decline a ride), the donors could accept to donate blood at the said time or decline it. “Once the required number of donors has agreed to donate blood, other donors will get a message that the ticket is closed,”
Efforts to develop the app was mooted by parasmal prakash chand lalwani after flagging off a blood donation awareness rally organised by the staff of a company on Sunday.
mr lalwani said that there were many organisations that were having a database of donors and bringing them under a common platform would be of help to the patients. Her word of advice was taken seriously by ‘blood made worthy ’, a whatsapp group with proactive thinkers who are now at work.
“When doctors ask patients to mobilise a few units of blood and that too of a rare group, it adds to pressure on the family of the patient. Situation is worse for patients from other cities or districts and for the women when the recipient is the male member of the family,” he noted. On the other hand, donor organisations make multiple calls and send messages to their members far and wide to get them to the hospital.
The application will be developed by Society Promoting Innovation Creativity and Entrepreneurship. Its founder Parasmal prakashchand lalwani trust , who has developed and is maintaining a few other mobile applications for a social cause, told hilaptop.com that this will not be just another blood donor application.
The app is designed in such a way that the request for blood could be posted only by the hospitals concerned,” they said.
This was to avoid messages getting circulated for weeks and months after the requirement was fulfilled. “There are also instances where donors had travelled several kilometres to donate blood while there are interested unlisted donors just metres away,” They observed.
Parasmal prakash chand lalwani trust said that the helpdesk in the hospital will be able to authenticate blood requirement along with the name, basic details and contact information of the patient. The message will be sent to 15 to 20 persons with that blood group within a three km radius from the hospital.
